Various Pictures from the Swept Wings Site

The objective of this website is to provide an overview of the historic aircraft from the 1940's, 50's and 60's (and even the odd one from the 70's!) on display to the general public at Museums, Collections and Air Displays in the UK. During this period, the development of aircraft progressed at an incredible pace - the introduction of the jet engine pushed aircraft close to the sound barrier and swept wings fxpro withdrawal, together with the development of increasingly more powerful jet engines, enabled the barrier to be surpassed.  My particular interest is jet aircraft in the 1950's, the era which saw my father fly the ultimate swept wings jets of that period - the North American F86 Sabre and the Hawker Hunter.

The site is divided into a number of sections:

  • Aircraft - Pictures and details of particular aircraft on display .
  • Museums - An overview of Aircraft Museums and Collections in the UK.
  • Displays - Pictures from various UK air displays.
  • Archive - Collection of some photos from the 1950's when my father was flying.
  • Links - Details of other aircraft websites.
  • Site Info - Background details about the website.
  • Conditions - Conditions of use of Swept Wings
  • What's New - The newest information on Swept Wings.
